...It does look like I won't be going to Worlds after all, at least not this month. Which is, obviously, understandable, but disappointing, especially as I spent a lot of money on the trip.

I'm holding out hope that it gets rescheduled when things are a little safer here, and also not during the week I'll be in New York.

It's such a trainwreck, and as far as I can tell there seems to be no good solution. Moving Worlds would be near-impossible and unbelievably expensive. (Plus it would leave people like you, who have bought tickets and are in Japan, totally in the lurch.) They can't postpone it forever because people have commitments, like SOI starting in April. No one really knows how long it'll take for things to be 100% safe (and IMO even if things are 100% safe it still just seems kind of insensitive to hold a huge sporting event so soon after a horrible natural disaster). And canceling Worlds would just suck so much for so many people. Because I am horribly biased, I immediately think of this being Ryan Bradley's chance to redeem himself after having to compete with a broken foot last year, and Meryl and Charlie's potential title. What if Virtue and Moir come back next year full-force and Meryl and Charlie never get another chance to win? I mean, let's be clear, the safety of the Japanese people is a million times more important than a skating event, and there so many consequences of the earthquake that are so much more serious than this. But I really can't see any way for it to work out. I'm glad I'm not Cinquanta right now.
