So unfortunately I'm still feeling a little too sick to go out tonight, so instead I stayed in, caught up on my RP, and reread the single greatest HIMYM fic of all time, Metal Heart. I've read it about a billion times, but until now it was always with a sense of tentative hope -- like, man, I hope Barney/Robin is actually this awesome when it happens!

Instead, I just read it again, and all I could think the time was, God dammit, this was how it was supposed to happen, you bastards!

So basically, I've decided that I'm going to give up and mentally retreat into a fake universe where this is actually canon. I'm still going to watch the show and all, I'm just going to pretend this happened somewhere in there instead of actual Barney/Robin. And any time anyone challenges me on this, I'm just going to say, "Pfft, what show were you watching? Because I was watching the awesome one."

I just watched Rough Patch tonight and it made me sad. Shades of Carter/Abby. Big buildup. Very small, fleeting payoff.

The only good things about The Rough Patch were: 1) Ted being shockingly adorable at the beginning (seriously, when did he become the best character? WTF?), and 2) them breaking up the horrible, OOC Barney/Robin couple that was absolutely nothing like it should have been at all. I'd rather have no Barney/Robin than have it like that, with Robin suddenly turned into some whiny stock sitcom girlfriend and Barney being forced into coupleyness. :/

Lol I liked Ted on tantrum as well. "Uh-huh, uh-huh. I'm gonna go do push-ups in the kitchen." TANTRUMMMM. I felt like they were going somewhere interesting with R/B, but then they caved without warning in a disturbingly horrible way. At the same time, I didn't start watching until the end of last season, so I don't have much canon to compare this to. The exchange in and out of the stakeout station wagon was pretty amazing, though.

Oh no, for your own sake, go back and watch the earlier seasons. They're... so very much better than what's going on now, except for Ted. Barney/Robin especially was set up to be this totally awesome, unconventional thing, and they just completely killed it. But it wasn't just The Rough Patch -- basically every episode other than the premiere and maybe Robin 101 killed it.
