I think it's smart of Johnny to leave the option open for himself, actually, because it takes the pressure off. This way, he can aimlessly fuck around for a while, which I think will do him a world of good after all the pressure he's been under, and try out a bunch of things to see if he likes them. I think if he'd given up skating for good, there's be a lot more pressure, because every interview would suddenly be "So what are you going to do with your life now?" when he probably doesn't even know that himself yet, and there'd always be that shadow of "I gave up skating for this. Was it worth it? Can I even do this? What if I suck at it?" over everything.
I think that if he spends a year without competitions, he'll probably find that he loves it, because unlike Evan, he mostly loves skating for its own sake, and the performance aspect, and he'll still get to have that. I doubt he'll miss competing all that much.
I feel kind of bad for Daisuke. I really wanted to see him kick everyone's ass. Especially Evan's.
