okayawesomeSo belatedly, I realize that I was supposed to have done recs before the author reveal, but it actually took me this long to get through all the stories I wanted to read, and I didn't feel like doing more than one recs post. So oh well.
In, I guess, alphabetical order, my favorite Yuletide fics (that I haven't already recced):
The Big Bang Theory
The Cheap Trick Acceleration -- Sheldon/Penny isn't usually my cup of tea (I like my Sheldon asexual), but this fic sells it. Plus, I can't pass up Sheldon Prime.
Community
Fundamentals of Chemistry -- Again, a fic that totally sells me on a pairing I might not otherwise read (Troy/Annie). The biggest problem with those two is how to get them together, and this version completely works.
Friendly Rivalry -- Hi, HBT! This is too cute. Annie and Abed wrestle over Troy, sort of. I like to imagine this ends with a group date.
Discworld
A Day in The -- I love silly Discworld fic (I wrote silly Discworld fic), but this fic reminds me of how sad and poignant the series can sometimes be. A really lovely slice of Death.
Plus, a bonus Disc-fic at the end of the post!*
District 9
The Green Prawn -- This is the only fic I've seen that dared to make Wikus have not come to terms at all with his prawnish self, and I think that's excellent. I also like the use of human POVs to set Wikus apart from both sides.
Futurama
A Tale of Two Suitors -- As it turns out, just about all the Futurama fic is great, but this one (and the previously-recced Just Desserts) really stood out to me. And this one is all Fry/Leela, which is basically the cartoon OTP of my life.
Hot Fuzz
DIY for Beginngers -- This fic is getting recced everywhere, and rightfully so! Classic Nicholas/Danny, with a very sweet, fun take on the "Character decides he's gay now" trope.
Model Village -- I've never read a scary Hot Fuzz fic before, but this one is totally terrifying. What if Nick and Danny had lost? Yikes.
Jeeves and Wooster
Oh, Jeeves! -- I have such a weakness for Jeeves/Wooster fics written from Bertie's POV, and this is my favorite of the year. Plus, it has illustrations!
Modern Family
in the house we see a light (that comes from what we feel inside) -- This is actually my favorite fic of the entire archive. I wouldn't have guessed from the title (sorry, writer!) but this is a note-for-note perfect Modern Family story that does just what the show does: showcases every member of the Pritchett/Dunphy clan, in a way that is both funny and completely endearing. Come for the Cam/Mitchell, and stay for the Dylan and Jay.
Slings and Arrows
Castles in the Sky -- Gen with Anna, Nahum, and Maria! And funny, at that. Be still, my heart. Not to mention the appearance of tortured artiste Darren and his wild stagings.
Bonus!: *So this isn't a Yuletide rec, but while I was looking for more Discworld fic to read, I stumbled upon this one and was instantly in love. I genuinely think anyone who's into Discworld, and has the slightest interest in gender and sexuality, should read this: Modern Love -- a deeper look at just what's going on these days in dwarf society.
