So I failed to mention it, but I actually had some work this week! Woo money. \o/ Except that this resulted in a 13-hour day of physical labor on Saturday, which meant I was too tired to do anything on Sunday...
Anyway, the upshot of all this is that in between writing fic, obsessing over costumes, and having yet more tests run on me, I somehow managed to wind up watching the entire first half of Avatar the Last Airbender over the past three days. And sadly, I don't mean the first half of the first season. I just finished episode 11 of season two. :[
But anyway, it's surprisingly awesome! I'm out of the anime phase of my life and I don't think it's something I'm going to fangirl seriously, but it's cute and fun and well-written, and just brainless enough to spare me from a tiring week*.
Some particular pros:
My love of characters who fail at life has ensured that, of course, I want to hug Sokka and feed him cake all the time. This goes approximately a million times for Zuko. Oh,
Zuko. He's not good at being good
or bad! How could I not enjoy him?
Relatedly, Toph, Iroh and Katara all also are great. And I love that I was worried they were taking Katara down the "girl heals and is girly while guy fights and is awesome!" path and instead they just made her awesome all by herself.
Fuck yeah, Katara!
Cons:
I keep thinking Sokka, Iroh and Toph should all be pronounced differently. >:(
Oh my gosh, do people seriously ship this and write smutty fanfiction? D: Because maybe I'm just old, but even the canon shipping makes me a little uncomfortable. I keep wanting to go AANG YOU ARE 12 YEARS OLD STOP THAT. Even Sokka's ongoing relationship woes make me think of The Little Mermaid and that bit where Ariel is like I'M 16 DADDY I'M A GROWNUP NOW. *waves cane*
Also, the movie really is going to suck
completely, isn't it? Holy hell. D:
edit Oh LOL, also, God bless the voice actors, especially Rufio, but Zuko and Aang's speech impediments are so fucking distracting sometimes.
Anyway, in summation:
*I'm not saying it's stupid, but A: it's kid's show, B: the show I marathoned directly before this was freaking Mad Men, and C: it's like a cartoon ST2009. ADVENTURES WOOOO.
