So, we're only a week away from the book going on general sale, now. But if anyone wants to go ahead and ruin the second half of A Dance with Dragons, here it is...

Again, these are going to be, for the most part, summaries of what's happening, rather than specific details. MAJOR spoilers will be whitetexted for your pleasure.

The second half of the book does, indeed, pick up from where AFFC left off, for better or worse.

Which means...

THE ANSWERS YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. )

That's where the cast of AFFC picks up in ADWD. As for the plot we've been following in this book...:

IF I LOOK BACK, I AM LOST. )

Okay, George. Bring on the next one, I'm ready to go.

So I spent, like, basically all of today reading ADWD, which was a pretty great life decision, and now I'm about halfway through -- i.e., too far ahead to have any desire to go back and do chapter-by-chapter spoilers. Plus, my impression is that people don't really want that, anyway.

The last post represents the first 125 pages or so, so now you know more or less how the book starts. I think from here it's best to just do some summarizing and Points of Interest of the first half of ADWD:

HERE THAR BE SPOILERS )

So basically, all the concurrent-with-AFFC stuff has now happened, from what I can tell. The second half of the book looks to be post-AFFC... possibly with some other characters reappearing? I genuinely don't know.

It was requested on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_asoiaf that I post spoilers for ADWD, since I'm apparently the first member to get their copy. So as not to clutter up the comm or accidentally ruin anything for anyone by accident, I'm putting it all here.

I guess this is also sort of doubling as my commentary.

SO DO NOT CLICK ON THE CUT UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING AND READY TO READ SPOILERS FOR A DANCE WITH DRAGONS, OKAY?

I will update this post as I read. Exciting!

Beautiful, beautiful spoilers: )

Aaand I am stopping for now. I have to say, this book is like... a million times better than AFFC, so far. Not quite up there with ASOS, but there's a lot of action and the plot is generally moving forward and it's not too bogged down in "people I could not give less of a shit about." Points, GRRM, I was worried!
